Beauty Picks

Full disclosure: I am so not a product girl, I usually stumble across my beauty products via target, my mom's collection, or the odd sephora gift card (from my brother, I know right!). These are a just few things that I already do or would use everyday if I could.
  1. benefit bathina this body balm is amazing, perfect to make your legs look like a million bucks for a night out and it smells like a solid fragrance without being overpowering
  2. aveda nourish-mint lip glaze in cherry blossom I'm not a huge lip gloss girl but this stuff is the perfect texture and you can add just a tad of the cherry color to get the look of a pink stain
  3. joe fresh nail polish in mango 3 fun colors for 10$, I'm sold!
  4. nars soft touch shadow pencil in hollywoodland There is incredibly little substance contained at the top of the stick (boo deceptive packaging) so it doesn't last long, but this works wonders for sleepy eyes as a highlighter.
  5. oscar de la renta live in love I really love how this smells, timeless and feminine but not too stuffy
  6. revlon no pinch eyelash curler I have yet to find an eyelash curler that does the job as well as this one. I'm definitely fed up with the metal kind that I manage to break every few months!
What are your favorite products? Do you prefer to splurge or save?

Happy Halloweekend

costume of '09
Coming off of an interest in politics after the 2008 election (I took a few government / american history courses), I went for "Hillary Clinton in the Early 90's with Long Hair" in 2009. I thrifted a blazer, skirt, and shoes and tried to copy a hairstyle I found in an old photo of my gurl hil. And don't try to take this as a political thing, because I was fascinated by the fact that she used to have long hair, and she's awesome from a female's perspective (in my opinion).

Other favorite costumes include a "Rubber Chicken" using orange trash bags, Regina George, and Spiderman 3 (the pillow-y fake muscles were fun).

So what are you dressing up as? Got anything super creative in the works or do you prefer to buy a costume that is ready to go?

IGP (Instagrampalooza)

And the instagram train rolls onwards! I don't think I've ever noticed how beautiful fall is, and I'm so glad that I'm soaking it all in, as this could be my last fall in the north for a while. The trees/ leaves are getting most of my instagram attention these days, what about you?

See more here: @kels_ea and leave me your username so we can be insta-friends ;)

Yum Times a Million

Just a few snapshots of a baking night we had a few weekends ago. We made Oreo mini cheesecake cupcakes with chocolate drizzle. I just modified this recipe because I couldn't find my grandma's version. I really need to start keeping a recipe box or notebook. My new baking obsession is trying to perfect my icing / chocolate handwriting, definitely a pretty cool marketable skill haha.

Have you baked anything yummy lately?

Little Sister Style

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine

If I were able to choose my little sister's outfits, hypothetically speaking of course, since we "just have different styles" (her words), they would turn out like this. I definitely miss the days where she would let me choose some of her clothes! Also, aren't kids clothes just instantly more adorable than the adult varieties? Not to mention I would probably wear everything on this page if it actually fit me, no shame!

Not even my brother is safe from my shopping prowess, he is currently rocking some snazzy skinny jeans we found this summer (and we're not talking the overly emo or feminine kind here, they actually look really good!)

So who do y'all like to play dress up with? Are they enthused about it or perhaps a tiny bit resistant?

Links I Met and Liked

spots + cape = sold // source
  1. I want to make this DIY so badly. Don't think acquiring PVC is in my near future so it will have to wait until Christmas break.
  2. This post from nat the fat rat made me so happy for so many reasons. I hope me and the future hubs can be half as cool as they are haha
  3. If you're looking to be inspired, check out the Pot family's blog. Words cannot describe how amazing their faith is.
  4. Tough girl booties as my little sister would call them. I would love to style a pair of these with a tulle skirt like the amazing Jessica's (she made it herself too, doesn't get any cooler than that!)
  5. Some new or newly obsessed with blogs: seersucker + saddles, love, blair, and gal meets glam
Have any new / new-to-you blogs to share? I'm always adding to my reading list (shhh don't tell my gpa)  :)

So Hot Right Now

Spacesuits and jumping through the stratosphere = so hot right now ( image source
  1. Pumpkins. So hot right now. (Mugatu quote anyone?) I must say I'm still sad summer is gone and winter is coming straight on for us (Heart lyrics?). This might have something to do with the fact that  Halloween, and fall in general, are always tainted by midterms and assignments.
  2. On that note I can't wait to graduate. The epic final countdown has begun!
  3. I am finally starting to get back into a regular routine involving sleeping better and working out a little (to say its been a while would be an understatement). I'm looking forward to having more energy throughout the day. I really like Elise's challenge to run a mile a day. Or the Couch to 5K Challenge which is also so hot right now. I can't decide which one I prefer!
  4. I experienced my first earthquake the other day! It was pretty neat, I was more intrigued than anything since it was only a 4.5 magnitude. Have any of you ever been through an earthquake?
  5. Is anyone else kind of sneakily excited for Christmas? I may or may not have already planned a few gifts out hah. At least in Canada we only have to wait until November 1st to listen to Christmas music (weird yes, but awesome nonetheless) :)
What are y'all ranting and raving about these days? Did you catch the free fall?

BWI (Black and White and Insta)

taken with my instagram @kels_ea

I've been having wayyy too much fun with instagram lately, and I definitely have no shame in capturing little pieces of my day. My phone's camera makes an obnoxiously loud noise so there isn't really a way to be discrete about it!

This week is full of finishing up midterm season (almost there!) and playing catch up in a few of my classes. I'm planning on heading to value village for an intense thrifting session this weekend as a reward. How do y'all like to treat yourselves after an exam or big deadline?

Let me know where to find you on instagram :)

Seafoam + Orange = Outfit

further proof my hair has a mind of its own!

shirt h&m // sweater target // skirt jcrew // minnetonka moccasins // zara bag
Couldn't pass up the opportunity for this double dose of seafoam-y turquoise and I am also really excited about the orange and seafoam duo. I'm definitely going to be giving this mix another go because I love the idea of putting together borderline clashy colors :) Do you wear any combinations that just feel so wrong but so right?

When I showed my mom this outfit (the skirt was a gift) she remarked: "Its a bit grandma don't you think?" I didn't even protest, considering I act like I'm going on 80 most days. What can I say, I just can't resist a good cardigan or slouchy purse or crocheted afghan or cup of tea and cookies, for that matter. Fully embracing my inner "gam gam" over here. Speaking of elderly, (that's how you know a riveting conversation is coming up right?) how hilarious was this week's new girl episode? I almost died when Nick pulled the incontinence prank! If you haven't seen it yet GO WATCH NOW, you will not regret.

As an aside based on the "antiqued" quality of my photos this semester, I really miss having a DSLR to play with. I'm looking forward to saving up for one or just waiting patiently until the magic fancy camera fairy leaves one in my possession. #heyitcouldhappen  #student budget

Hearsay

unrelated but how awesome is that hat!?!?!  via fashion gone rogue

Another round of silly things I've heard (or said):
  1. "What's the difference between lions and tigers again? Just the stripes?" -H
  2. "Ps. i went to the dr today and peed in the cup like a champ" -C
  3. "Why are there puppy stickers on our kitchen cabinets?" - roomie
  4. "Phosphoprotein phosphorylase gets phosphorylated so it can no longer phosphorylate" - biochem prof (clearly my favorite course... not)
  5. Student 1: "it smelled like gas in there, I thought the whole building was going to explode" Student 2: yeah well it was the chem building, that would be bad like you couldn't just throw water on it" Student 1: "yeah because that's like chemistry"
  6. "Is lysol bad for pumpkins?" - me
What's the best one liner you've come across lately?

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving

from my INSTAGRAM @kels_ea

Wishing all of my Canadian friends and family a very happy Thanksgiving. I hope that the turkey leftovers and statutory holiday treat you well :) I'm spending my day off in the library getting cozy with a biochemistry textbook so get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather for me!

Right now I'm most thankful for my amazing parents for all of their support and guidance, especially as I prepare to pursue a real career (still not sure when I became a real adult, so weird).

What are you most thankful for these days?

I Want My DIY

one // two // three // four // five // six

These days I am itching for some crafting! Title of this post inspired by this classic rock number. I can't wait until midterms are over and I can commit to tackling a crochet project. All of my scrapbooking supplies, sewing notions etc. etc. live at my parents' house, which means I will be missing them until christimas (love you too mom and dad).  In the meantime I'm writing down ideas and channeling my creativity into studying biochemistry (yuck) and hand writing letters to my far away friend.

Any suggestions for simple crafts that don't break the bank or require many supplies?

Check out my pinterest and leave me the link to yours too!

Wee Little Boots

jacket jcrew // shirt joie // pants citizens // boots thrifted // purse vintage dooney
// bracelet + necklace jcrew // ring f21

A combination of vintage, borrowed-from-mom's-closet, thrifted, and higher end (on sale duh) pieces make up the majority of my favorite outfits. These jeans were marked down 75% at saks and the boots were a goodwill find.

I also feel like this guy when I wear these boots, they are a bit of a squeeze to get in and out of, and the heels   make a decent amount of noise, so I feel pretty snazzy in them. All shallow-ness aside, a good pair of shoes always brightens my day.

How do y'all like to combine pricey-ish new pieces with thrifted finds?

Infrequently Asked Questions

thrifted sweater // hunter boots // target c9 leggings // f21 necklace // h&m denim top

A list of things you wouldn't think to ask me, but may chuckle at the responses to anyways:
  1. What's up with your hair? I haven't cut my hair in roughly 1.5 years. I'm cheap and the last 3 haircuts I've had left me with the most absurd layers.
  2. Who won the D.A.R.E. essay contest in 5th grade? this kid right here
  3. How tall are you? I am 5'9", it makes wearing heels a fun lets see how many dudes are shorter than me adventure.
  4. What is your most obscure pet? My pet bunny's name is Ella but my little sister wanted to name her Sasha (after Sasha Obama, my sister was 7, no political connotations whatsoever).
  5. What is your transportation of choice? I can drive a standard (like a boss in my opinion, my skills are lacking in my passenger's opinions)
  6. Do you take naps? I enjoy napping while listening to Morgan Freeman's Through the Wormhole. Not due to lack of interest, just because have you heard that man's voice?
  7. What is your most obscure favorite food? I love those little squishy strawberry marshmallow candies. When I find them somewhere unexpected there are usually squeals involved.
  8. Who is your favorite comedian? Stand up would be Demetri Martin and cinematic would be Will Ferrell.
Now its your turn, Pick one of the questions and leave me a comment with your (possibly sarcastic) answer!
